Keep an eye on your team members’ emerging, evolving goals.
As is often the case, we learn valuable lessons from our team. Recently, I partnered with an employee to reinvent themselves to meet an emerging business need rather than adding to the team with an external hire. The lesson learned was twofold. First, leaders need to understand that a person’s dreams and ambitions change. Second, stay in touch with what each team member’s emerging view of success looks like.
